Sigi Koko, the Principal of Down To Earth Design contacted me to create a railing that would compliment and accommodate a home that had a couple of trees growing through it. Naturally my BENT Iron Art railing was the way to go. Seen here in these photos my BENT Iron Art railing intersects with the tree trunks that look like sculpted pieces on their own and go up and through the home. The first photo has the railing finished with the wood handrail capping it off nicely. The rail had a flat iron piece on the top to fit into the dado groove on the bottom of the wood handrail. The bottom rail is a decorative rail that screwed directly into the floor giving a nice rail to floor look.
I did this project a few years ago with the end result being a distressed wood railing with my BENT iron art railing inserts. The railing had golden oak handrails and base and white balusters. The first step was to remove the white balusters and strip the oak handrail and base down to the bare wood. From there I custom fit and created my BENT iron art railing design as inserts. The iron was powder coated in a oil rubbed bronze finish. From that point the BENT iron art railing was then installed and attached to the handrail and wood base. Then the bare wood was stained in a Jacobean color creating a distressed look.

My taste is not country and contemporary - I needed someone that could take a design and fabricate it. After a lot of Google image searching, I found Cam! Cam's work is exemplary. Don't know how else to say it. I was able to create a design, make a call, and describe what I wanted to do (to remove the eyesore at the entrance of my home) and it made sense to him. With some measuring and a picture, I was able to…

Here is my BENT iron art railing used as an interior railing giving this home a unique look. I created my custom BENT Iron Art railings to suit my clients design and size requirements. Each design starts with a single hand bent piece of solid iron and the design evolves from there. This is how each railing I do is unique as the design is allowed to unfold as it is created. What do you think? Would you use this for your home or cottage?
