3 easy steps to transform your deck

3 easy steps to transform your deck

Here are 3 easy steps to transform your deck to take it from Ho-Hum to Oh-Wow. 1 - Clean the Decking One of the ultimate ways to makeover a deck is a good cleaning. Apply a good quality deck cleaner and then use a power sprayer with a fan style tip on a low to medium pressure so you don't damage your wood deck. Spray in the direction of the wood grain keeping the wand tip about 1 to 1 1/2 feet away from the surface of the wood. If you're planning on staining or applying a coat of deck…

5 Step Stair Railing Design Transformation

In this 5 step stair railing design project we transformed an old style railing into this amazing one of a kind BENT Iron Railing with distressed wood finish. Here is what the railings looked like before the stair railing design project began. STEP 1 - we removed the white balusters and pulled out all the nails that held them in place…

Iron Stair Railing Anson Project

Iron Stair Railing Anson Project

These iron stair railing pieces were created for a client in the Spring of 2019. My client chose a square tube for the top rail and a flat steel bottom rail. The purpose of this was to have a substantial looking top rail that would attach to the wood posts and wall. The flat bottom rail sections had holes drilled into the bottom rail after the design was laid out to screw it to the wood trim along the floor. The process for my client was simple from beginning to end. I was provided both the height and length measurement…

Iron Window Well Cover

Iron Window Well Cover

This project is a window well cover and I am looking at it as a piece of functional iron art within a frame. It will be seen both from the vantage point of looking down on it while standing or sitting on the deck and also from the inside basement office window looking out. It will also create some beautiful shadows in the basement office space when the sun shines through the design. The window well was framed in when the deck was built with a ledge for the cover to sit on. For emergency exit out of the window…

There is a tree growing through the house, in fact there are two!

Sigi Koko, the Principal of Down To Earth Design contacted me to use my BENT Iron Art railing as it complimented and accommodated a home that had a couple of trees growing through it. Naturally my railing design was the way to go. Seen here in these photos my BENT Iron Art railing intersects with the tree trunks in a home that had a couple of trees growing through it that look like sculpted pieces on their own and go up and through the home.  The first photo has the railing finished with the wood handrail capping it off nicely.…

BENT iron art interior railing with a distressed wood handrail and base

BENT iron art interior railing with a distressed wood handrail and base

I did this project a few years ago with the end result being a distressed wood railing with my BENT iron art railing inserts. The railing had golden oak handrails and base and white balusters.  The first step was to remove the white balusters and strip the oak handrail and base down to the bare wood.  From there I custom fit and created my BENT iron art railing design as inserts.  The iron was powder coated in a oil rubbed bronze finish. From that point the BENT iron art railing was then installed and attached to the handrail and wood…
